Participate in Reducing Linden Hill's Carbon Footprint

We welcome your ideas, comments and feedback. We are a neighborhood group, comprised of neighbors just like you. We are incredibly blessed to have brilliant people living in our community and many have already come forward to offer their talents - in market research, legal knowledge, graphic design, etc. If you have a skill you believe would be useful to us, give us a call! We could certainly use help with fundraising, grant-writing, business-plan creation or evaluation, 2-hour volunteer shifts at the Linden Hills Festival in May, joining a committee, or just joining our mailing list and spreading the word with your neighbors. Don't forget the green cart drill team! Anyone who would enjoy synchronized marching with a garbage cart is welcome!

Stay informed on news and upcoming promotions. Sign up for the e-newsletter in the box below. Pick "general interest" for general info, or volunteer to be a point person for the Organics Collection by selecting "compost captain" as your group. Compost Captains disseminate info to neighbors, answer questions and provide feedback to us on what is and isn't working. We email on average once a month or less. Email us about joining one of our committee below. Or
consider joining the board. Click here for responsibilities.

Volunteer as a Zero Waste Educator!
Duties:
  • Attend a brief training at the start of your shift on the benefits of zero waste and what goes where
  • Monitor a waste minimization station to guide people on what can be composted, recycled or is trash
  • Enjoy the fresh air and socialization
  • Represent zero waste values in a positive, inclusive way.
Join us once a week, once a month or just once! The choice is yours! Email for details on upcoming events.

What is Linden Hills Power and Light?
It's a group of Linden Hills residents committed to impacting the fight on global warming, by acting locally first, then globally. We want to make our community an example to the rest of Minneapolis – by engaging our neighbors and moving them to action.

Why have members?
Opening LHP&L to paid memberships will grow the organization, raise additional funds and increase the number of programs it can sustain. It also allows us to find people that are just waiting to share their talents with the rest of us, and identify skillsets that are begging to be utilized. (Or you can just cheer us on, that's fine too).

What exactly do you do?
We meet and work with the city, county and other entities on your behalf to ensure we can bring innovative programs to our neighborhood like the compost pilot. We also work with numerous non profit groups to determine whether we can collaborate on initiatives that will enhance our community and fulfill our mission of reducing our local carbon footprint, building community, reducing waste and conserving energy.

We keep up with all the latest advancements and reports on the environment so we can be your resource on what’s happening in that area. We read magazines like Biocycle (the bible for garbage and composting) so you don’t have to. And we attend conferences and take field trips to facilities in other cities so we can bring best practices back to Linden Hills.
